The bandstand railing at Chandrashekhar Azad Park in Prayagraj has been restored after a decade-long initiative costing Rs 6.7 lakh, returning the structure to its former glory.
Originally known as Alfred Park and locally called Company Bagh, it is a historic site where freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad chose death over capture by British forces. The park was renamed in his honor.
Vaibhav Mani, Secretary of INTACH's Prayagraj chapter, emphasized the bandstand's cultural significance as it once hosted the British army band. Despite administrative delays due to official transfers, the restoration was finalized under PDA Vice Chairman Amit Pal Sharma, with plans for preserving more historic structures.
