Bollywood star Deepika Padukone will not be returning for the sequel of the hit Telugu film, 'Kalki 2898 AD', as the producers and the actress failed to establish a partnership, according to a statement released on Thursday.
The production house, Vyjayanthi Movies, made the announcement on social media platform X, revealing that the Nag Ashwin-directed movie, which also includes icons like Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan, could not secure an agreement with Padukone, which is vital for a project of this caliber.
Released in June 2024, 'Kalki 2898 AD' earned more than Rs 1000 crore globally. Padukone has yet to publicly address her departure from the franchise, and the film community continues to speculate on agreements regarding actors' working conditions and pay.
