Pandit Chhannulal Mishra, an eminent figure in Hindustani classical music, passed away early Thursday at the age of 89. His family confirmed his passing following a prolonged period of illness. Mishra had been residing in Mirzapur with his youngest daughter's family.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences, highlighting Mishra's significant contributions to Indian arts. Modi shared that it was Mishra who had supported his 2014 Lok Sabha candidature from Varanasi.

Known for his mastery in Khayal, Thumri, and Bhajan, Mishra's training included tutelage under his father, Badri Prasad Mishra, and prominent musicians like Ustad Abdul Ghani Khan. His last rites are scheduled in Varanasi, where he will be remembered fondly.
