The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Mohan Yadav, has sparked debate by questioning the health benefits of eggs and advocating for cow's milk as a superior alternative. Addressing a gathering at a 'Govardhan Puja' event near Indore, Yadav said, 'Drinking cow's milk ensures health, thanks to God's miracle.'
Yadav criticized the well-known jingle promoting egg consumption, encouraging the public to focus instead on the benefits of cow's milk. He highlighted ongoing efforts to construct cow shelters across the state, which would help protect and nurture thousands of cows.
The discourse surrounding egg promotion is not new in Madhya Pradesh. In 2019, a plan to serve eggs to combat child malnutrition was met with strong opposition, mainly from BJP leaders, who cited religious concerns. This opposition has remained a point of contention in the state.
