Scarlett Johansson, famed actress and singer, has commented on reports suggesting she might portray the villain Mother Gothel in Disney's live-action adaptation of its animated hit 'Tangled'. In an interview with People, Johansson questioned the certainty but expressed interest in the possibility.
The actress noted that the prospect of collaborating with director Michael Gracey, known for 'The Greatest Showman', excites her due to his visionary expertise. Disney announced the development of the live-action 'Tangled' under Gracey's direction in December 2024, she added.
Despite the project's development being paused in April following the lackluster performance of 'Snow White', casting announcements are pending. Johansson is widely expected to play Gothel, originally voiced by Donna Murphy. 'Tangled' narrates the tale of Princess Rapunzel's quest for freedom and familial reunion.
