Modi's Homage to Kanakadasa: A Celebration of Cultural Legacy

On Friday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the historic Kanaka Mantap in a significant cultural homage. He paid floral tributes to the revered saint-philosopher Kanakadasa, who lived in the 14th-15th century AD and is celebrated for influencing the legendary episode concerning Lord Krishna's idol.

During his visit, Modi took part in the 'Laksha Geeta Pathana,' a mass recitation of the Bhagavad Gita participated by over one lakh devotees at the Udupi Sri Krishna Temple. Accompanied by dignitaries like Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot and Paryaya Puthige Math seer, Sugunendra Thirtha, Modi joined the religious chanting, reciting the hymns alongside others.

This visit marked Modi's second trip to the Krishna temple; he first visited in 2008 as Gujarat's Chief Minister. This time, he was welcomed with a traditional Poorna Kumbh swagatham and received items integral to South Indian pooja rituals. His visit underscored the cultural and religious significance of Kanakadasa's enduring legacy.
