Legendary writer and poet Gulzar shared insights on the creation of his acclaimed 1988 TV series 'Mirza Ghalib', describing how destiny led him to cast Naseeruddin Shah in the titular role. Shah, then a student, had proactively written to Gulzar, declaring himself the ideal choice.

Initially, Gulzar envisioned a film starring his frequent collaborator, Sanjeev Kumar. However, financial and casting challenges delayed the project until television provided a new platform to tell Ghalib's story expansively.

At the Jashn-e-Rekhta Festival, Gulzar revealed how both his and Shah's determination overcame hurdles. Gulzar praised Shah's transformative skills as an actor, solidifying the show's enduring legacy in Indian television history.
