The Goa Police detained Ajay Gupta, a partner in the 'Birch by Romeo Lane' nightclub, on charges related to a deadly fire that left 25 dead. Gupta, claiming to be an investor, faced court in Delhi where a 36-hour transit remand was granted amid ongoing travel disruptions.
Despite medical concerns, Gupta is set for transfer to Goa, while nightclub owners, Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, remain on the run in Thailand. Efforts to gain anticipatory bail were denied as Delhi's court demanded a response from Goa Police and scheduled further hearings.
In response to the tragic incident, Goa's Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, announced stringent safety audits of tourist establishments, warning that non-compliant venues may face closures. Additionally, the government plans to enhance safety in water sports and curb tourist-related conflicts.
