President Droupadi Murmu embarked on a two-day visit to Manipur, where she took time to observe a traditional 'Sagol Kangjei' polo match on Thursday afternoon. The event took place at the famed Mapal Kangjeibung, also known as Imphal Polo Ground, underscoring the cultural heritage of Manipur.
'Sagol Kangjei' holds a special place as the ancient precursor to today's polo games. President Murmu's visit marks a celebration of this rich tradition, drawing attention to its historic roots in Manipur. The exhibition match featured local players and added a vibrant touch to the president's itinerary.
Among those accompanying the president were Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, along with other senior officials. Earlier, upon her arrival at Imphal Airport via an Indian Air Force flight, President Murmu was given a ceremonial guard of honor by the women personnel of Manipur Police, showcasing the region's hospitality and respect.
