Goa's vibrant nightlife is under scrutiny following a fatal fire that claimed 25 lives at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub. In preparation for the bustling Christmas and New Year season, the government has intensified its crackdown on establishments failing to meet safety standards.
Officials from the district administration, fire and emergency services, and police are inspecting North Goa's tourism hotspots. In the aftermath of the December 6 incident, clubs without necessary licenses or those operating on unauthorized premises risk being sealed immediately.
Prominent clubs like Goya Club and Cafe CO2 Goa have already been shut for violations. Meanwhile, Diaz Pool Club and Bar's safety shortcomings prompted the revocation of its fire safety certificate, reflecting the stringent measures undertaken by authorities.
