Sundance Film Festival 2026: A Celebration of Short Films and Cinematic Excellence

The Sundance Film Festival has unveiled its lineup for the 2026 edition, showcasing 54 short films across eight programs, representing 22 countries. This diverse selection includes fiction, documentary, and animation, with a special Park City Legacy program that highlights films from past editions. The event marks the festival's final year in Park City, Utah, with filmmakers in attendance. Kim Yutani, the festival's Director of Programming, expressed anticipation for this year's films, noting their display of creativity and powerful storytelling as they explore themes of belonging and resilience.

Scheduled from January 22 to February 1, the festival will take place in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, with ticket sales starting January 14. Concurrently, the American Cinematheque announced honorees for its annual Tribute to the Crafts, recognizing niche expertise in filmmaking. Celebrated films include "Sinners," "One Battle After Another," "Frankenstein," "Train Dreams," "Hedda," "Wicked: For Good," "F1," "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning," "Golden," "Avatar: Fire and Ash," and "Weapons."

Renowned production designer Jack Fisk will receive the Career Achievement Award for his decades-long impact on cinema, while the late Andrew J. Kuehn Jr. is posthumously honored for his pioneering contributions to movie trailers. The Tribute to the Crafts applauds achievements in 13 categories, highlighting excellence in casting, cinematography, choreography, and more. Artistic Director Grant Moninger remarked on the high caliber of work celebrated this year, emphasizing the integral role of artisans in bringing films to life.
