The much-anticipated traditional bull-taming sport launched the Pongal 2026 harvest festival season on Thursday, marking the first of three major events. Approximately 550 bull tamers showcased their skills as around 1,100 bulls roared into action in Madurai.

This mid-January spectacle spans three days, extending to Palamedu and Alanganallur for the grand finale on January 16 and 17. The champion man and bull duo will drive away with a car, tractor, and other enticing prizes.

Opening the event, State Commercial Taxes and Registration Minister P Moorthi was joined by Madurai district Collector Pravin Kumar. Rigorous medical screenings ensured bulls' and competitors' health, while a digital scoreboard debuted at the venue, enhancing the thrill of the event.
