On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, more than 3.6 million devotees took the sacred plunge into the Ganga and the Sangam at the ongoing Magh Mela, as reported by officials on Thursday.

The ritual bathing commenced at midnight and continued until morning, drawing millions of pilgrims. With the favorable period extending throughout the day, officials anticipate that the number of visitors could surpass one crore by the evening.

Enhancements in facilities, including the installation of changing rooms and improved sanitation, were lauded by attendees, as local authorities ensured both safety and organization amidst the spiritual celebrations marking the Sun's transition into Uttarayan.
