The much-anticipated release of the Vijay-starrer 'Jana Nayagan' has hit a roadblock as the Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the producer's plea for an immediate censor certificate. Instead, the court referred the matter back to the Madras High Court, asking for a resolution by January 20.
KVN Productions LLP contested an interim order from the Madras High Court to stall a directive for the Tamil film's censor clearance, initially set for a January 9 release. The film, potentially Vijay's last before his political immersion, sees its future hanging by a thread, amid mounting legal challenges.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing the producers, argued the urgency of the certificate to avoid financial losses as the film was pre-booked in over 5,000 theatres. Despite his pleas, the Supreme Court panel held firm, urging the matter to be expedited in the lower court.
