Singer Kailash Kher joined millions of citizens on Thursday, stepping out to vote in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. The Padma Shri awardee visited a Mumbai polling booth, underscoring his civic duty.
Addressing the responsibility shown by voters, Kher remarked, "The people of Mumbai are very responsible, they fulfil their duty, we just have to carry forward this tradition. Every person should step out of their home and vote." Among early celebrity voters was actor Akshay Kumar, alongside Twinkle Khanna, Nana Patekar, Vishal Dadlani, and Suniel Shetty.
The elections span 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra, following an intense campaign, impacting major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur. Crucially, the BJP and Shiv Sena contest as allies under the Mahayuti banner, except in Pune where the NCP contends independently. The State Election Commission reported 3.48 crore eligible voters deciding the fate of 15,908 candidates across 893 wards through 39,092 polling centres, with vote counting scheduled for January 16.
