Pongal, the harvest festival, was greeted with excitement and splendor in Puducherry on Thursday. Residents thronged to temples, celebrating with poojas dedicated to the Sun God while raising 'Pongalo Pongal' chants.
Key figures, including Lieutenant Governor K Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N Rangasamy, were among those who extended greetings to the public on this festive occasion. Essential festival items such as sugarcane and turmeric saplings were highly sought after and sold rapidly.
In a generous gesture, the territorial government distributed kits containing rice, sugar, and other essentials worth Rs 750 like edible oil, at no cost via ration shops. Additionally, a sum of Rs 3,000 was transferred to families under the Public Distribution System, ensuring an inclusive celebration for all.
