In a move celebrating literary achievements, Hindi writer Mamta Kalia and Manipuri author Arambam Ongbi Memchoubi are set to be honored with Amar Ujala's prestigious Akashdeep Award. This accolade not only acknowledges their impactful contributions to literature but also aligns with global recognitions of women's contributions.
Both authors will receive a cash prize of Rs 500,000, alongside a citation and a specially crafted Ganga sculpture at the Shabd Samman event in 2025. The award gains special significance as it is conferred in the Golden Jubilee year of the International Women's Year, originally proclaimed by the UN in 1975.
Memchoubi is celebrated for her influential writings on postcolonial thought and women's identity in Manipuri, while Kalia is lauded for her works that delve into complexities within the middle class and women's struggles. The event will also honor other distinguished works across various literary categories.
