On Thursday, hundreds of tribal protestors staged a sit-in near Goa's assembly complex, demanding the cancellation of the Unity Mall project planned in their Chimbel village. Conceived under Prime Minister Modi's initiative to boost local crafts, the project faces opposition due to environmental and livelihood concerns.

Local residents, who have been on a relay hunger strike for 18 days, marched to Porvorim where the legislative assembly session is ongoing. Stopped before reaching the complex, they vowed to continue their protest into the night until the project is scrapped.

Opposition MLAs and local leaders visited the protest site, voicing support for the protestors. Despite the BJP government's assurance of employment and cultural promotion, dissent remains strong, with AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal criticizing the government's disregard for villagers' wishes.
