Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has called on Union Minister Piyush Goyal to bring coffee cultivation under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, aiming to provide financial support to farmers in times of crop loss due to adverse climatic conditions.
In her appeal to the Commerce and Industry Minister, Priyanka emphasized the international recognition of Wayanad's coffee quality, while expressing concerns over the challenges faced by growers situated in hilly terrains. She cited media reports indicating the Coffee Board's proposal to include coffee in the crop insurance scheme.
She also highlighted the need for policy amendments, urging the government to make subsidy conditions more flexible, and to enhance irrigation subsidies for tribal growers. Priyanka expressed her readiness to support initiatives that bolster India's coffee sector globally.
