The travel writing community mourns the loss of Hugh Gantzer, whose last rites were held in Mussoorie on Wednesday. A celebrated author and Padma Shri recipient, Gantzer passed away at 94 in his residence, 'Oakbrook'. His contributions to travel literature remain unparalleled.

In attendance at the ceremony were his family, friends, and Indian Navy officers, who honored Gantzer, a retired Navy Commander, with a guard of honor. The solemn farewell took place at the cemetery on Camel Back Road, marking the end of an illustrious journey in both travel writing and military service.

Gantzer, alongside his late wife Colleen, made significant strides as travel writers, penning over 30 books. Their contributions were nationally recognized when the couple received the Padma Shri in 2025. Despite health challenges, Gantzer's legacy continues to inspire writers and travel enthusiasts alike.
