The picturesque Boh Valley in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district is poised to redefine itself as the state's first dedicated trout fish hub. Situated approximately 25 kilometers north of Shahpur, the valley, celebrated for its natural allure, is gearing up to become a pivotal center for trout production and tourism.
Trout, a prized freshwater fish known for its culinary and sport fishing appeal, flourishes in the clear, fast-flowing Himalayan rivers. In Himachal Pradesh, species such as rainbow and brown trout, introduced from Europe, inhabit waters offering the low temperatures and high oxygen essential for their growth.
The project's Rs 3.03 crore funding underscores its importance, as outlined by Shahpur MLA Kewal Singh Pathania. Already, a trout hatchery and several infrastructure enhancements have been completed. With community involvement and enhanced marketing strategies, including motorcycles with ice boxes, the initiative promises significant economic and tourism benefits.
