Pixar Animation Studios is ramping up production on a third instalment of its beloved franchise, 'Monsters, Inc.', according to Variety. The news comes as the studio continues to build on the success of its first two films, 'Monsters, Inc.' and 'Monsters University.'

Directed by Pete Docter, the original 'Monsters, Inc.' debuted in 2001 and followed the adventures of monsters Sulley and Mike as they navigated their roles at a company that thrives on scaring children. The film was a critical and commercial hit, grossing over USD 528 million worldwide.

The sequel, 'Monsters University,' released in 2013 and directed by Dan Scanlon, explored the duo's college days. It exceeded expectations at the box office with earnings surpassing USD 700 million.
