Pakistani producer Abid Merchant has unveiled plans for an international film project inspired by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore's 1893 short story 'Shasti' or 'Punishment'. This groundbreaking venture will bridge the talents of industry experts from diverse regions, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, the United States, and more.
The film, directed by critically acclaimed Bangladeshi filmmaker Leesa Gazi, known for the 2025 hit 'A House Named Shahana', aims to captivate audiences with a reimagined narrative of two brothers, their wives, and a mysterious death that unfolds into a courtroom drama. Casting prominent Bangladeshi stars Pori Moni, Chanchal Chowdhury, and others, the film promises cultural authenticity.
Set to commence pre-production in September, the project will shoot in Dhaka later this year. The film is crafted for international release and is set to explore compelling themes of family secrets and manipulation while attracting a global cinema-going audience.
