A significant convention was held on Thursday in Mahad, Raigad district, Maharashtra, marking the start of the centenary celebrations of the historic 'Chavdar Tale Satyagraha'. Organized by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Jati Ant Sangharsh Samiti, the event, titled 'Human Rights Convention against Manuwad and Capitalism', aimed to commemorate and advance the social reform legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Dr. Ambedkar had led the original Satyagraha in 1927 to protest caste discrimination by asserting the Dalit community's right to access public water bodies. The gathering was attended by key figures including CPM general secretary M A Baby, politburo members Dr. Ashok Dhawale and Mariam Dhawale, state secretary Ajit Nawale, and central committee member Vinod Nikole. Tushar Gandhi, great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, also graced the occasion.

During his address, M A Baby urged participants to uphold Ambedkar's mission for social transformation and to broaden its reach. Plans were announced to organize a larger gathering on December 25, marking the centennial of Ambedkar's symbolic burning of the Manusmriti, a text deemed discriminatory by Ambedkar and his proponents.
