In a strategic move to mitigate fire risks, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has installed four robust pumps in the Devgiri Fort area. The decision comes in light of a recent incident where these installations prevented a potential disaster, marking a proactive step in preserving this historic site.
Last year, the fort, a major tourist attraction in conjunction with the Ajanta and Ellora World Heritage complex, witnessed a large scale fire that affected significant areas around its vicinity. Responding to this, the ASI introduced four 7.5 horsepower pumps strategically placed across the site to utilize existing natural water resources effectively.
The pumps are connected via 200-meter pipes and valves to water sources like the Saraswati well and the moat around the fort. These measures are not just a safeguard but serve the dual purpose of maintaining the historic integrity of the tourist site while ensuring visitor safety.
