The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is embarking on an ambitious plan to revive Naini Lake in Model Town, inviting new tender applications for the project. Estimated to cost nearly Rs 10 crore, the initiative aims to breathe new life into the area within 12 months, encompassing a range of civil, electrical, horticulture, and maintenance works.
Delhi tourism minister Kapil Mishra announced a grand vision to transform the lake into a major tourist hotspot back in July 2025. In collaboration with the Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC), the project plans to introduce a variety of water activities, such as shikara and gondola rides and racing boats. A state-of-the-art laser show and upgraded musical fountains are also in the works to enhance the visitor experience.
The MCD intends to channel treated water from a sewage treatment facility and freshen up the lake's banks for a greener ambiance. Contractors eligible for bidding must belong to registered bodies and comply with the specified requirements by April 21, 2026. The tender breaks down costs across different sectors, while granting the MCD authority to reject submissions if necessary.
