In a significant development for Bhaderwah, Jammu and Kashmir, the 'Chota Kashmir' is set to host the much-anticipated Lavender Festival 2026 on May 31 and June 1, marking an unprecedented scale of celebration. The festival, dubbed the 'land of purple revolution', is expected to draw prominent figures from the national aroma industry.

Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director of CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), announced the event as CSIR-IIIM's flagship initiative aimed at promoting aromatic crop cultivation and strengthening farmers' enterprises in the region. Lavender cultivation, which started in 2014, has spread to states like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, significantly impacting the local economy.

Plans for a Centre of Excellence in Bhaderwah aim to provide farmers with assured markets and training facilities. The ongoing Aroma Mission supports over 2,500 lavender farmers in Jammu, transforming lavenders into a lucrative venture for small and marginal farmers. The initiative has distributed over 30 lakh free lavender plants, boosting agri-based startups and farmers' enterprises.
