Ladakh is poised to become a world leader in Pashmina wool, according to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, who emphasized the need for value addition and enhanced market access for farmers and artisans. This strategy aims to position Ladakh as a global brand for this luxurious wool.
During a visit to the Pashmina Goat Farm at Upshi, Saxena highlighted the administration's dedication to making Ladakh a premier hub for Pashmina wool. The region boasts some of the finest wool, extracted traditionally and processed in Leh. Saxena stressed the importance of improving processing, branding, and market links to boost local income.
The visit also explored opportunities to elevate Ladakh as a unique tourism destination. With infrastructure upgrades and guided tours, the farm could educate visitors on authentic Pashmina, enhancing its appeal and combating misinformation.
