Javed Akhtar, the legendary lyricist, defended filmmakers' freedom to express ideas in their works amid debates on so-called 'propaganda films.' Speaking after receiving an award, Akhtar mentioned that every story takes a stand, and not aligning with all audiences doesn’t inherently make it propaganda.

He expressed concerns about religious intolerance after an event was canceled due to Islamist objections. Akhtar stressed rationality and open-mindedness, adding, 'An atheist thinks inherently, is without prejudice.'

Regarding political changes, Akhtar noted the passage of time and societal evolution as catalysts for content evolution in film, highlighting the aspiring spirit of the younger generation.
