External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has underscored the evolving yet continuous relationship between India and Jamaica, grounded in shared history and forward-looking cooperation. In an article for The Jamaican Gleaner, Jaishankar emphasized the partnership’s focus on realizing greater mutual possibilities.
During his maiden trip to Jamaica, Jaishankar pointed to the long-standing diaspora ties as a cornerstone of the relationship. He noted that for Indians, cultural icons such as Bob Marley, Usain Bolt, and Michael Holding represent the deep cultural and social bridges between both nations.
Highlighting bilateral economic synergies, Jaishankar mentioned recent trade milestones and future prospects in areas like pharmaceuticals and technology. He praised Jamaica's engagement with Indian-led initiatives focused on disaster resilience and renewable energy, advocating for stronger academic and people-to-people ties. His visit aims to strengthen these multifaceted connections.
