Preserving History: The Menhirs of Lungphun Ropui

Recognized as a national monument, the site reflects Mizoram's rich heritage. Vanlalvena had advocated for this recognition in Parliament.

Mizoram's Rajya Sabha member K Vanlalvena paid a visit to the historical site of Lungphun Ropui, known for its carved memorial stones or menhirs, located in the Champhai district.

On Monday, the MP interacted with local leaders and civil society representatives, underscoring the critical importance of preserving the site and understanding its cultural implications. He praised the ongoing efforts of Lianpui villagers in maintaining their ancestral heritage.

Recognized as a 'monument of national importance' by the Archaeological Survey of India, the acknowledgment resulted from advocacy efforts, including those made by Vanlalvena in Parliament. The Lungphun Ropui site, rich with ancient artefacts, reflects pre-Christian Mizo cultural practices through detailed carvings.
