Shashi Shekhar Vempati Takes Helm at CBFC
Shashi Shekhar Vempati, an IIT Bombay alumnus and the former CEO of Prasar Bharati, has been appointed as the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), succeeding renowned lyricist-poet Prasoon Joshi. Vempati, a co-founder of the AI4India Org, will now oversee the statutory body regulating public film exhibitions in India.

In a significant appointment, Shashi Shekhar Vempati has been named the new chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) by the Indian government.
Vempati takes over the position from Prasoon Joshi, who recently assumed leadership of Prasar Bharati. An IIT Bombay alumnus and a prominent author, Vempati is also known for co-founding the AI4India Org, which strives to democratize access to AI technology.
The CBFC, a statutory body under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, plays a vital role in regulating film exhibitions in India as mandated by the Cinematograph Act 1952. All films require certification from the CBFC before public screening, ensuring compliance with governmental guidelines and statutory rules.
