Major Subhash Gawand (Retd), a distinguished veteran of the 1962 Indo-China and 1971 Indo-Pak wars, has died in Maharashtra's Thane at the age of 88, as confirmed by his family. Battling age-related ailments, the resident of Gawand Bagh in Thane earned national pride through his valiant service.
Commissioned into the 8th Battalion of the Mahar Regiment of the Indian Army in 1960, Major Gawand carved out a stellar military career. He played a significant role in two of India's major wars, displaying exceptional bravery in the line of duty over a 22-year service period.
Post-retirement, Major Gawand's efforts were directed towards inspiring the younger generations. He founded the Jijñasa Sunday Military School, dedicated to inculcating discipline and patriotism in youth, preparing them for future defense endeavors, as shared by his daughter.
