BJP MLA from Naihati, Sumitro Chatterjee, announced plans to turn the birthplace of esteemed novelist Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay into a major tourist attraction. As a descendant of the famous author, Chatterjee aims to showcase Chattopadhyay's literary and nationalistic contributions to a broader audience.
Chatterjee criticized previous governments for neglecting Chattopadhyay's ancestral home, despite it being declared a heritage building. He expressed gratitude to the Modi government for properly honoring the iconic 'Vande Mataram'. Chatterjee further highlighted that despite its proximity to Kolkata, Naihati lacks holistic development plans due to past political motivations.
Plans include turning an unused lake into a fishery project and building a resort for destination weddings. Such initiatives are part of a broader vision to establish Naihati as a cultural hub, celebrating Chattopadhyay's multifaceted legacy, thereby drawing both domestic and international tourists.
