Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called for the establishment of a specialized vertical at the National Institute of Design (NID) to bridge the gap between design and commercial opportunities. Speaking at the Gandhinagar campus, Shah highlighted the need to transform design into a viable career option akin to the shift in cricket driven by the IPL.

Emphasizing the importance of aligning creativity with market demands, Shah urged the institution to establish mechanisms that link design professionals with industry needs. He shared insights from his conversation with cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, drawing parallels between the past financial challenges in cricket and the current state of design careers.

Moreover, Shah advocated the expansion of design roles into high-tech sectors such as semiconductors and automobile manufacturing, stressing the sector's indispensability. He praised India’s artistic heritage, including Patola sarees, and called for the exploration and promotion of these traditional crafts to realize their full commercial potential.
