Authorities in Nagpur district have taken legal action against three individuals following the electrocution of a sloth bear by an unauthorized electrified fence. This incident occurred near farmland in Ramtek taluka, where the bear was reportedly killed on May 15.
Jaidev Raising Salame, one of the accused, allegedly installed the live wire fence to prevent wildlife from entering his maize and paddy fields. Inquiries made by the Forest Department on May 22 uncovered an effort to hide the bear's body in a pit, an act believed to be motivated by a desire to destroy evidence.
Additionally, villagers Avinash Yashwant Kokode and Hameshlal Hamilal Uike have been implicated for their role in disposing of the carcass. The Nagpur police have filed charges under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, and the Indian Electricity Act, as they continue to investigate this matter.
