Rome Pride Excludes Jewish LGBT Group Amid Genocide Stance Dispute

Rome Pride has come under fire for excluding Italy's sole Jewish LGBT group, Keshet Italia, from its annual parade. The decision stemmed from the group's failure to denounce Israel's actions in Gaza as genocide. Jewish organizations swiftly condemned the move, accusing Rome Pride of imposing ideological tests on participants.

The organizers of Rome Pride clarified that while their event is open to anyone sharing the movement's founding values, participation in the parade's float requires alignment with its political platform. They emphasized the distinction between Israel's government and Jewish communities, stressing that Keshet Italia failed to distance itself from the alleged genocide in Gaza.

Critics, including the European Jewish Congress, argue that the decision undermines the inclusive nature of Pride events, which are meant to celebrate LGBTQ+ visibility and rights. Nevertheless, Rome Pride maintains that its political platform is not open to selective endorsement.
