In an unprecedented move, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will launch with opening ceremonies in three different countries: Mexico, Canada, and the United States. For the first time, the world's most anticipated football tournament will be celebrated globally with events in Mexico City, Toronto, and Los Angeles, as reported by ABC News.
The festivities kick off on June 11 in Mexico City ahead of the match between Mexico and South Africa. Headlined by musical powerhouses Shakira and Burna Boy, the extravagant ceremony will feature a live performance of the official World Cup song, 'Dai Dai'. This event is scheduled to commence 90 minutes before the 3 p.m. ET kick-off, with simultaneous broadcasts available globally.
Continuing the celebratory momentum, June 12 will see two more opening ceremonies. Toronto sets the stage before Canada's match against Bosnia-Herzegovina, while Los Angeles gears up for the United States’ clash with Paraguay. Each city promises a unique cultural showcase, with star-studded lineups contributing to a vibrant prelude to the games.
