French sailor and record breaker Charlie Dalin has died at the age of 42, according to a statement from the Vendee Globe organizers. Dalin, who etched his name into sailing history by setting a new record in the solo, non-stop around-the-world race, succumbed to a lengthy battle with cancer.

In 2025, Dalin established a new benchmark in the Vendee Globe, beating the previous record by over nine days. This triumph in 64 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes, and 49 seconds came during his second participation, following a commendable runner-up finish in 2020-21. His two-decade-long sailing career was decorated with significant victories in renowned races like the Transat Jacques Vabre.
