Sherlock Season 5 is undeniably one of the most anticipated television series. It has been over three years since Season 4 dropped its finale and fans are constantly looking forward to get some updates on its production. Thanks to Benedict Cumberbatch who never rejected the possibility of another season of Sherlock.

Why Sherlock Season 5 has not received any hint from BBC – this is a highly valuable question and also a center of all rumors related to the cancellation of the British crime drama television series. But the real truth is a hint from BBC will make almost an official confirmation and it is possible that Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss are not in a position to make this happen. This does not mean Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman’s series will not return for another season.

Here, we have the latest update on Sherlock Season 5. Martin Freeman recently had a conversation with Collider for his imminent movie Ode to Joy and he was also asked about the possibility of Sherlock. The 47-year-old actor, who plays the role of Dr John Watson in the series based on Sherlock Holmes detective stories, said that not only he, but Benedict Cumberbatch, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss are super busy and that’s the reason they do not want to run the risk of ruining the show’s legacy by producing a subpar season.

“They’re few and far between, the discussions about Sherlock, just because Mark [Gatiss] and Steven [Moffat], the writers, and Benedict [Cumberbatch] and I, are all lucky enough to be not only working on stuff that we like and are interested in, but we know what Sherlock is. You don’t look that gift horse in the mouth ‘cause that sort of stuff doesn’t happen very often, in someone’s life. It’s a huge, huge, worldwide hit, and way beyond anything we could’ve imagined,” Martin Freeman said.

But he also indirectly provided a hint for Sherlock Season 5 saying “The way the story went, in the last series, felt like, if not a full stop, then certainly a semi-colon or ellipses. It felt like a pause.”
