Facebook wants to run only on renewable energy by 2020

The Facebook signed on August 28 a commitment to work only with renewable energy by the end of 2020. The announcement was made by the official statement of the company and also accompanies the initiative to reduce by at least 75 percent emissions of greenhouse gases in the same period.
In the text, the company claims to have already beaten the annual record of acquisition of clean electricity and coming from solar and wind farms, mainly. On the way to its goal, the company says it will become the largest corporate buyer of energy from renewable sources, with more than three gigawatts purchased annually and forecast to increase in this total.
In its statement, Facebook claims to have a concern with local communities. The idea is not only to be the largest, but also to buy small ones, generating jobs, income and development in inner cities or even creating projects based on solar and wind energy in regions that do not yet have access to this type of clean energy supply.
The focus of social networking efforts is on the workings of their data centers, which, we all know, are at the heart of Facebook's global operation. The incentive for this kind of transition was such that the company met its own goals ahead of schedule - the idea, for example, was to reach 50 percent of the clean-energy operation by the end of this year, but this was achieved in the middle of 2017.
The company has avoided talking about whether it will happen now since reaching 100 percent of the operation using clean energy is not the easiest task. It is one, however, that Facebook seems willing to face, reinforcing its commitment to the Paris Agreement even if its host country, the United States, has refused to join the alliance.
