Cardinals place 2B Wong (hamstring) on DL

The St. Louis Cardinals placed the second baseman Kolten Wong on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday, retroactive to Aug. 26, with a left hamstring strain.

Infielder Patrick Wisdom was recalled from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move.

Wong underwent tests in St. Louis on Monday after injuring his hamstring while running out a ground ball in Saturday's game at Colorado. The 27-year-old had initially expressed optimism that he would be able to avoid a DL stint.

Wong has hit .244 with eight home runs and 32 RBIs in 110 games this season. He was on the DL from late July to early August for left knee inflammation.

Wisdom, 27, is back with the Cardinals after making his major league debut with the team earlier this month. He hit .333 with one homer and three RBIs in nine games with St. Louis before being optioned to Memphis last week.
