Lok Adalats disposed of over 70,000 cases in TN on single day
To dispose of the cases, a total of 447 benches were constituted - 10 in the Madras High Court, six in Madurai and over 400 in the district and taluk-level courts.

National Lok Adalats held in Tamil Nadu disposed of over 40,000 pending and more than 30,000 pre-litigation cases Saturday. Organised by the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority (TNSLA), the Lok Adalats settled disputes for a sum of Rs 179.35 crore.

To dispose of the cases, a total of 447 benches were constituted - 10 in the Madras High Court, six in Madurai and over 400 in the district and taluk-level courts.

The serving and retired judges of the Madras High Court settled the cases in Chennai and Madurai. The Lok Adalats were conducted following instructions from the second seniormost Supreme Court judge, Justice Ranjan Gogoi, who is also the executive chairman of the National Legal Services Authority.
