Our alliance is only with the people: TN BJP chief

The BJP in Tamil Nadu Wednesday asserted its alliance was only with the people of the state as it rejected claims and counter claims by the AIADMK and DMK that each other was eyeing an electoral tie-up with it.

Tamil Nadu BJP President Tamilisai Soundararajan also said the state would continue to focus on creating awareness among the people about the various welfare schemes implemented by the Narendra Modi government.

"The DMK says the BJP has an alliance with the AIADMK which says we have an alliance with the DMK.

This is not true, the alliance is with the people," she told reporters here. Her remarks come in the backdrop of Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker and AIADMK leader M Thambidurai's recent claim that the BJP and the DMK were building an 'alliance'.

"An alliance between the BJP and DMK is in the making. Earlier too, they had formed a coalition government in 1999," Thambidurai had said referring to the DMK being a part of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government then.

The two parties were again inching closer for an alliance, he had said. Ever since the demise of AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa, the DMK has been accusing the ruling party in the state of being subservient to the BJP, questioning its support to various central initiatives.
