Adityanath wants early resolution of the "Ayodhya" issue

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Thursday called for an early resolution of the Ayodhya issue, saying those who did not want the matter to be settled were deliberately trying to create obstacles.

He welcomed the Supreme Court ruling on the Ayodhya issue and said the court had made "similar remarks" in its 1994 verdict.

"The apex court verdict is crucial. It had made similar remarks in 1994," he said.

The chief minister said it will be good if the issue is settled as soon as possible.

"This is necessary for harmony and prosperity in the country," he said.

Speaking to reporters at Kashi Vidyapith here, Adityanath noted, "People who do not want the issue to be settled are trying to create nuisance and controversy. Such people are trying to create obstacles".

"We believe that the SC will complete the hearing in this case and deliver its judgment soon," he said.

The chief minister added that he had full faith in the judiciary.

The apex court Thursday declined to refer to a five-judge constitution bench the issue of reconsideration of its 1994 observation that the mosque is not integral to Islam.

The issue of whether the mosque is integral to Islam had cropped up when a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra was hearing a batch of appeals filed against the Allahabad High Court's 2010 verdict.

In that judgment, the high court had ordered that the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid area should be divided among three parties -- the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.
