Ukraine's waterborne food exports totalled 3.5 million metric tons from April 1-15, including 3 million tons shipped through the country's Black Sea ports and 0.5 million exported via the Danube river, brokers said on Wednesday. Spike Brokers, which tracks and publishes export statistics, gave no comparative data. Ukraine's farm ministry said last month that maritime food exports totalled 2.95 million tons from March 1-15.

The brokerage said on the Telegram messaging app that 1.3 million tons were exported through the port of Chornomorsk, 880,000 tons through the port of Pivdennyi and 818,000 tons through the port of Odesa. Those parts are all in Ukraine's southern Odesa region.

Spike Brokers said the average daily railcar unloading rate at Odesa region ports fell by 10% to 1,252 railcars per day in April. National railways Ukrzaliznytsia has banned any transportation in the direction of the large Black Sea port of Chornomorsk until April 17.

"Due to hostile shelling, the arrival of wagons at the port of Chornomorsk has been suspended, so cargo is being redirected to other ports," brokers said. Chornomorsk is one of Ukraine's biggest sea ports. The Odesa region, key to Ukrainian exports, is under almost daily attack by Russian drones and missiles targeting energy and transport infrastructure.

Data provided by the agriculture ministry showed that corn dominated Ukrainian food shipments in the first half of April and totalled 1.97 million tons. Ukraine's maritime exports also included 777,905 tons of wheat, 255,855 tons of sunflower oil, 239,506 tons of various meals, and 182,087 tons of barley, the data showed.

In March 1-15, traders shipped abroad 1.27 million tons of corn, 981,687 tons of wheat, 238,562 tons of barley, 234,015 tons of sunflower oil, and 116,136 tons of soybeans.
