No Technicians Show Up for Kolkata Film Shoot Amid Rahool Mukherjee Controversy
In a surprising turn of events, no technicians showed up for the shooting of a film in Kolkata, despite filmmaker Rahool Mukherjee being allowed to work as a creative producer. The Federation of Cine Technicians had barred him from directing for three months due to a previous rule violation.
A day after filmmaker Rahool Mukherjee received permission to work as a creative producer for a new film, no technicians arrived at the Kolkata studio for the first day of shooting. This notable absence follows the Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India's (FCTWEI) clarification that Mukherjee could serve as a creative producer but not as a director for three months.
The federation's president, Swarup Biswas, explained that Mukherjee had been temporarily banned from directing for violating norms by shooting in Bangladesh without informing the federation and using local technicians there. Despite the allowance to work as a creative producer, Mukherjee’s involvement sparked controversy, leading technicians to boycott the shoot.
Film industry stalwarts, including Raj Chakraborty and Kaushik Ganguly, supported Mukherjee, criticizing the federation's stance. The production house SVF announced that Soumik Haldar would direct the film while Mukherjee remained the creative producer. The ongoing standoff threatens significant financial losses, demanding a resolution through dialogue.
