Tragic Selfies: Two Women Drown in Beas River

Two women from Uttar Pradesh, Aanchal and Meenu, drowned in the Beas River near Manali while taking photographs. Despite signboards cautioning tourists, such incidents have been recurring, indicating a persistent disregard for safety. Efforts to locate Meenu's body are ongoing, while Aanchal's has been recovered.

Two women from Uttar Pradesh tragically drowned in the Beas River near Manali in Himachal's Kullu district on Monday. The incident occurred as they slipped into the river while taking photographs, officials reported.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that Aanchal, 17, and Meenu, 24, who were with their family, accidentally slipped while clicking pictures on a rock at Vashisht Maud, about 2 km from Manali.

The body of Aanchal, a resident of Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh, was recovered some distance from the accident site and has been sent for postmortem, police disclosed.

A Manali police team is currently on-site and actively searching for Meenu, DSP Manali K D Sharma informed PTI.

In a similar incident on May 26, two tourists from Madhya Pradesh and Telangana drowned after a woman slipped while taking a selfie, and a boy fell while attempting to save her near Nehru Kund, 4 km from Manali.

Despite multiple warning signboards set up by the administration discouraging people from approaching river banks, tourists continue to risk their lives for photographs, a government employee stated.
