In a high-stakes push for fiscal success, Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren has instructed the Commercial Tax department to expedite revenue collection to meet the challenging target of Rs 26,000 crore for the current financial year, sources confirmed on Saturday.

As it stands, the department has gathered Rs 3,500 crore, falling short of the Rs 6,000 crore goal set for the first quarter. During a comprehensive review meeting, Soren emphasized the need for swift and decisive action.

Moreover, the Chief Minister called for a comparative analysis of GST-related assessments with states like Odisha, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal. According to the department, Rs 165 crore in GST compensation sanctioned by the Centre for 2021-22 remains unpaid. Officials are also pushing for increased revenue initiatives such as one-time tax settlements and the appointment of Additional Commissioner and Joint Commissioner to fill vacant positions.
