G Kishan Reddy's New Role: Aiming to Boost Domestic Coal Production

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has assumed charge of the coal and mines ministries. In his initial meetings, he emphasized the need to increase domestic coal production to reduce imports, stressing the importance of the coal and mines ministries in strengthening India's economy.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, after taking charge of the coal and mines ministries, has prioritized boosting domestic coal production to reduce fossil fuel imports. At a review meeting in New Delhi, he emphasized the significance of both ministries in fortifying India’s economic landscape. His vision includes increasing self-reliance in coal production and ensuring a robust supply to prevent power shortages.

Reddy, who previously held multiple ministerial portfolios and is a seasoned BJP leader, articulated a strategic approach focusing on determination, discipline, and teamwork over the next five years. He acknowledged that a decade ago, coal shortages led to electricity deficits, but assured that recent years have seen sufficient power availability.

Accompanied by Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey, Reddy aims to collaboratively overhaul the sector. Dubey, a prominent BJP figure from Bihar, joins Reddy in this critical endeavor, both committed to sustaining and advancing the nation’s energy needs.
